Mark Dever over at Together for the Gospel just posted some good and timely advice for all those wrestling with seminary options. Its a big decision, here are some good guardrails to maneuver it. In brief outline here’s his five considerations;

  1. Confession of Faith – what do they believe and do they really pursue that as they train you.
  2. Quality of Education – do they have the faculty, library, and depth to make it worth your while.
  3. Cost – your dime maybe your churches time, will you exit and still be able to agressively pursue ministry positions that won’t pay well.
  4. Church – are there churches in the area that you can faithfully trust your spiritual nurture and maturation to.
  5. Connections for life – who will you leave knowing, who will be your life partners in ministry.
